I Only Want To Live And Be Let Live Poem by Francis Duggan

I Only Want To Live And Be Let Live

I don't know if I've got an enemy
Though no one is an enemy to me
I only want to live and be let live
And be thought of as one who can forgive.

Like most people I yearn for wealth and fame
And that mine will become a very well known name
But I've no wish to climb up to renown
If in climbing up I must knock others down.

Like most people I have known mental pain
But I live for the happy times again
With the down times I too have learnt to cope
The will to live comes from an inner hope.

A religious mother taught me how to pray
But I have given all of that away
And though God's light into my soul I still receive
On religion I no longer believe.

There is a God or so 'twould seem to me
Though I can't say whether it be he or she
The God I know it's face is everywhere
The bees, the trees, the wild birds of the air.

And if you don't like what I am let me be
For I don't wish to have an enemy
I only want to live and be let live
And be thought of as one who can forgive.
