I Saw A Corpse



I saw a corpse left on a cold hard slab,
And saw that someone had arranged it
So it was smiling peacefully,
As if at a sublime beauty.
And I remarked,
'Dearest friend, this is the happiest I've seen you.'
But, of course, the corpse did not reply.
