I Should Get Up From Here Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

I Should Get Up From Here

I should get up from here,
Trying to write a poem to soften
That side of me gone cold.
I should move about to bring
The circulation back to my heart beating
Too slow, to the beat of loneliness...
I should get up from here and
Stack the dish washer, fold the laundry,
Hang up yesterday's clothes.
I should get up from here to kneel in prayer,
Giving thanks to still have voice to sing
The song I am now singing under my breath,
Now bubbling forth in whispers...
It sounds like a love song I thought I had forgotten...
I should get up from here and...
Oh! I think I will!
I am out of here!
Bye!
