I Should Have Seen It Coming Poem by nicola burkett

I Should Have Seen It Coming

I should have seen it coming, that I was going to crack,
The minute I asked you to remove your knife from my back.
You can’t even look at me directly in the eye,
As your lips spell out that dreadful word goodbye.
How could I be so wrong in thinking you never cheated?
I should have expected no less from someone so conceited
I've thrown out all the records that reminded me of you,
I've ripped to shreds all your clothes and burned the photos too
I've gone to every club and pub and partied really hard
I've gone to every high-street shop and maxed your credit card.
I just wonder what happened to the love we both once shared,
And all the times you showed and told me that you really cared
I'm just guessing it was just one big game to you
Well I’m telling you now; you’re going to get what your due.
