I Smile For The World's Sake Poem by Patrick OBrien

I Smile For The World's Sake

I smile for the world's sake.
No one will ever understand me,
I am just starting to.
To you I look and sound like a normal,
Average,
Happy,
Person.
But behind that smile,
Inside my head is where my true feelings show.
Joyfulness is something foreign,
Something to be feared.
Hatefulness,
Fearfulness,
Apathy,
All reign supreme.
For if truly felt elated,
truly felt it,
I would have to show all my emotions.
I would have to be myself.
I would rather be the person that society wants me to be,
It seems easier, but it's not.
We all want to fit in because what if we would be that one person who was truly, and utterly alone.
I not only smile for the world's sake, but also mine.
