I Will Run No Further Poem by Chijioke Olisah

I Will Run No Further

Nigeria, a land where the soil is fertile but the grasses are stunted.
A land where the smiles of the people depicts sadness and the cry of the poor brings joy to the rich.
A land where condemnation of killings from a leader in front of a camera is an obligation.
A land where bomb blast sounds like matches strikes.
In this our land, I will run no further.

Ooo Nigeria, the tender smiles to the youths with dismay,
The youths frowns to the fathers with dishonour,
The fathers looks up to the grandfathers,
And the grandfathers punishes the lineage,
In this our land, I will run no further.

My Country, My Home, My Village, My Shade,
The girls in Chibok are still treated like livestock.
The citizens are kept under the government buttocks,
With twisted unwanted feelings like dreadlock.
In this our land, I will run no further.

The power sector has no vector,
The light comes like flashes and sneak away like a debtor,
Making investors climb the elevator,
And go to a land of see-me-no-more.
In this our land, I will run no further.

Very soon CV, s will be used to sell goods,
Certificates won’t be significant in adulthood,
Testimonials of students will be recycled back to plywood,
And nursery schools won’t exist in childhood.
In this our land, I will run no further.

Everyone is now a journalist on social media
With frustrated post on face-book and sentimental tweets on twitter,
Portraying the government and its cabinet with an image of a mamzer,
With fearless heart and courageous mind.
In this our land, I will run no further.

In this country I will run no further
Until corruption becomes a thing of the former
