I Write You Poem by Minnie Gehrig

I Write You

I reach up and pull down a star for you,
and squeeze its juices
to write this
in the brightest night so it veriably glows in the dark,

i write you into birth, and through the teenage years,
when blood was the least of pains,
and love so often hides in the shadows of lonliness and lust,

i write you into the 20 somethings,
with all its hills and drops,
and travesties and intermingling truths and lies,

i write you into failed marriages
and firstborn children and hope
mixed with frustrations
and the ever beating young heart that still wants so much,
the hand bloodied by the roses thorns
cautious yet still reaching,

i write you into my bed,
into my arms
i give you me
i write a happy tale,

i write you out of my bed,
out of my arms,
i write you with someone more beuatiful than i can imagine
and write myself backwards into the blues
and streetlamps
and bars
and brown eyed boys who all have missed me
while i was gone
way up in the heavens trying only to pluck that one perfect star
