Icy White Poem by Leo Jones,Jr

Icy White

I have sailed the North Atlantic
A cold and lonely place.
Had a beard of ice
Form upon my face.
Seen the great white whale
And Ahab's driven ghost.
Been to frigid Antartica
A craggy, ice strewn coast.
I've head the sonic boom!
Of an iceberg when it parts.
A sound of rendering clarity
To strike fear in the faint of heart.
I've seen that world of whiteness
Pristine and clear!
A world of winter wonder
But truly death lives here.
Seen the Emperor penguin
Begin the thousand mile trek.
Heard the Titantic's Captain exhort,
'All hands on deck'!
Had the great Polar Bear
Size me up as prey-
As I shouted into the cosmos,
'Lord, just one more day! '
Seen the icy expances
Of Siberia's endless plains.
Been to cold Hibernia
Where sleet is the only rain.
Learned men have long declaimed
The color of the sea.
All I know is icy white
Is the color of death for me.
