If Love Was Ever Real Poem by Jacinta Nabakooza

If Love Was Ever Real

And if love was ever real
It'd have chiseled us blissfully
In the fantasies of our young dawn
And bondly sealed us as soulmates.

If love was ever real
Promises wouldn't be said impulsively,
Vows wouldn't be mere words
And the best memories wouldn't be left
only in photographs.

If love was ever real
It wouldn't be painted beautifully
Only in books,
It would never remain only on pages
And it would be a cocktail everyone's
Willing to take.

If love was ever real
You wouldn't have stabbed my soul,
Trickled my blood like a wet garment dripping
And tattooed my corse with scars
Left by betrayal.
