Impossible Dream Poem by Beatrice Evans

Impossible Dream

Impossible Dream

I sigh in the night o'er feckless yearnings.
the sleepless hours lay bare all thoughts of thee.
Alone, the long shadows, shifting, burning;
inspired rationale flow's fearless and free.

To cross to this strange world un-invited,
audacious ‘gainst my need for thy caress
A torrent of devise lies unrequited,
I see but cannot hold thy loveliness

There thou art beyond the dark recesses
A care-free glow all love midst tranquil cloud,
deep inside my impetuous progresses
to disrobe and defeat that wretched shroud

No longer am I as I used to be,
For in this head my heart lies there with thee
