Impossible Past Poem by Kevin Patrick

Impossible Past

Rating: 5.0

It was 76', when you vacationed on Mars
Rented the family a cottage near Bradbury Mounds
A modern concrete Lloyd Wright framed into the bedrock
Overlooking the green Sea of cylindrical calm We had an L shaped pool that wound around the ocean
Hedged by a rocky isthmus that swelled all the tidal forces
The waters echoed like choirs in a cathedral of mystics
Sparkling lime eddies into Rhapsodizing currents
And every day we swam in our open-air bathtub
We wallowed in waves while you paddled your boat
Your squat body red as it glistened like a turkey
As mother sat on the deck scowling at our immaturity
There were two girls and a boy and miscellaneous relations
Enough to stock up on Advil for various occasions
For we triumphed in noise and praised to anarchism
Laughing and splashing in the recess of adolescence
The water was see-through emerald, glittering turquoise
It was so clear the surface looked like a shimmering goldmine
When we dived it was like fish exploring caverns for treasure
Buried deep in meadows of liquescent crystals
Pass the isthmus you could see where green seas meet the sky
Two sections red and green met on a vanishing point of no line
Rocky pillars stood on the horizon like the hand of God
Outstretching his fingers to lay reclaim this strange world
While we parlayed in leisure the horizon shield glimmered
And remained forever frozen into a permanent rose
It was as is the sunlight could not draw earthly shadows
And Our Joie de vivre of youth had no fading echoes
For as I peered through the eyes of someone in time
I remembered this moment was never to be mine

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Wrote this as a stream of conscience with the ideas coming free flow, this came from a dream I had about a vacation on the 4th planet only it wasn't one that I had (well that's obvious reason why) , only the memory was of relations of my past that are not around. Everything described hear is as it was in the dream. Mars had never looked so beautiful and the waters so pure.

Fantasy might become fact, a powerful desire is transmitted to the descendants and fulfilled many years after. A nice poem.

Imagination is the backbone of a poem. imagination is greater than any knowledge and degree. every knowledge evolves from imagination. you have imagined it may be possible. A great write. full marks.
