Parody - you stood there
making stupid, corny jokes
only you found fit to laugh at.
You called DiMaggio a friend,
but proceeded to denounce him
because he writes of Presley.
Presley may be physically dead,
but his memory, his spirit, his music,
will live on forever, keeping him
as alive as you and me.
Shall we drag you through the streets
because you idolize Brando?
No, of course not.
You seem to think that since Presley is dead,
he should be forgotten completely.
No, instead, turn up the volume of “Are You Lonely Tonight? ”
Brando, may still be alive,
but he’s far less impressive.
Perhaps he will be, after he’s gone.
Who’s to say?
DiMaggio dreams of Presley,
you dream of Brando.
Do you picture yourself in a t-shirt calling for Stella?
So, DiMaggio lives in Connecticut,
so what?
Connecticut is a hell of a lot more picturesque
than your section of New York City.
Better to get hit by an old lady’s umbrella
than stabbed by one of your knife wielding students.
Are you jealous of his good lifestyle there in Connecticut
while you’re stuck on the seedy, low-life side of the city?
DiMaggio may be your friend,
but you seem to resent him for some reason.
I wonder, if he spoke of Brando with as much fervor as you do,
would you still push him away, or embrace him?
Yes, Presley is physically dead,
but DiMaggio has every right to mourn him
by keeping his memory alive in his poetry.
And when Brando, the overweight, has-been, kicks the bucket,
will he be half the legend that Presley is
I don’t think so.
But yet, I see you being the very first one
to run into the streets,
and dropp to your knees,
with the loudest, most mournful
cry of Stella.
