In Memory Poem by Malory Joyce

In Memory

We entered:
We walked through the city mall,
through everything,
and through the sliding doors
upon the second floor,
we exit.

We walked;
Along the empty parking lot,
on top of the third floor,
where the cameras couldn't spy,
and the stoners can smoke,
so high.

We sat down;
upon a four corner wall,
a little below waist line height,
to where I had to lift up on tippy toes,
about an inch in reach,
to sit.

We talked;
while your words running in my head
I was playing with a stick,
writing and drawing pictures
inside the four corner wall,
into dirt.

You grabbed the guitar;
started playing and singing songs,
just your fingers and voice
took my breath away,
as if there was never air to begin with,
become breathless.

You looked at me;
I couldn't keep a straight face,
so I looked at the sun,
settling down upon our faces,
shining one last time before bed,
it's goodbyes.

I stood up;
walking along the wall in hope,
I wouldn't fall every time you looked at me,
but only inside I was falling,
over and over again,
falling.

I was in awe;
reaching my arms in the sky,
slowly shaking my head side to side,
then you wanted me to sing along,
since I can't breathe I can't sing,
I’m paralyzed.

We had company;
security driving by in smiles,
a man running around the lot,
banging his head from time to time,
then the stoners with their pot,
they applauded.

We left;
we took the stair case marked letter B,
walking off that parking lot floor
in exit of an unforgettable day,
we were there for so long we thought,
it was time to move.

We said goodbye;
there was a moment when silence
came in and took control,
overwhelming it was, we over came it,
having the chance to hold each other,
hugging.

We made a day,
Even through the eyes of a new day,
that day fallows me,
through the eyes of my memory,
playing like an old film,
just playing.
