In My Mind Poem by Rebecca Ellis

In My Mind

Devastation surrounds me as the skies grow dark, the air becomes bitterly cold and my tears fall like rain...

I wonder what is happening in my mind as to even I don’t know,
I’m feeling confused, or at least I think I am
... can’t be too sure anymore.

Everything now seems do much more complicated than that of a child,
Relationships then were like a game to be played, twisted and manipulated
… it was so much easier then.

No emotional attachments, the was no such thing as ‘love’,
Only like, but now there's this thing called love
… a deadly game

The games have grown more lethal, more devastating, more intense,
Emotions are like pawns in an oh-so malicious plot
… but what is love really?

Someone once told me it was nothing but a word,
Perhaps it didn’t mean a thing or maybe it meant everything…
.. Maybe, just maybe.

Someone else told me it’s a special connection two people share,
Something they wouldn’t trade for anything in the world
… I can’t eat, I can’t sleep and you’re all I think about.

Day turns to night, night into day,
It feels like I’m incomplete without you
… is this love?

If it is, it hurts.

Could you promise it wouldn’t hurt all the time?
You say you'll capture the stars and the moon,
... move the heavens and the earth.

But what you say and what you do are two different things,
I don’t ask much of you
... and I don’t want empty promises

The only promise I want
… is happiness with no pain.

Of a happy ending,
That you and I could be together
… forever.

…even if it is in my dreams.
