In Shame Once More Poem by Michael P. Johnson

In Shame Once More

I feel as though I’m torn apart
Such torment flood my mind
Remorse and guilt inflames my heart
How were these eyes so blind?

How can this child my God now face?
My time of prayer, I dread
I feel so lost, in such disgrace
I wish that were dead

Yet retrospect, if that were so
To die, whilst steeped in shame
Where would this sinful servant go?
When not the pit of flame?

If fear of God, is wisdom’s source
Where can this jewel be found?
Ere sin runs out its evil course
Whilst shameful deeds abound

I’ve read the bible through and through
I’ve sought God’s face each day
I know the things I ought to do
But still I chose to stray

The evil that caressed my soul
Sweet poison soaked my life
It’s me; who’s robbed me of my goal
Who wielded Satan’s knife

Give pardon Lord, this wayward child
This sinful fool of fools
Forgive Your servant running wild
Despising so Your rules

I’ve no excuse for all I’ve done
I know it all too well
Yet kneel in hope through Christ Your Son
You’ll save this child from hell.
