In The Backyard Poem by Linda Napoli

In The Backyard

Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal alight
on the hammock-
mad at each other because
he forgot the worm and came
in after sunset.

He flashes his red tail.
She turns her back and flies
off to get it herself.

He looks at her longingly, knowing
she won't be bak until dawn.

This came to me while I was watching the pair of cardinals who live in our backyard.

What a fun little poem! Enjoyed this. I sometimes feel as if birds are bickering back and forth when they start their squawking! Lovely job on this!
