In The Dark Poem by Samarendranath Mahapatra

In The Dark

I have come out of the caves.
There is a strange darkness
which takes off everyone's clothes
across the town.

Rusted momentspillingalong
the cloistered road.
My maleness drops like the snake skin.

When the lanes burn, the town
is dark, invisible -
in the horrible, phallic happiness
moving through me.
The night is sleepless.

Now the doubting shadows
are careful about the footsteps
returning from the lanes,
disappear at the square.
