In The Early Morning Light (Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

In The Early Morning Light (Sonnet)

In the early morning light
where the light is hazy
the house in the street stand trembling
between jacarandas that flower purple
and on this Sunday morning
men in black suits walk
to where the church bells are chiming,

a young couple stand hand in hand
where they are drinking some Coca Cola
on the porch of a café,
there are dogs barking in the street
where newspaper sellers are shouting loud,
while families do enjoy a weekend
that gives rest after a busy week.
