In Time? (9th April 2007) Poem by Sarah Capella Smith

A staircase of hardened hearts,
The sea slides over the stones -
A heart underwater;
Big and beautiful.

Did I hear someone crying
Or was it the wind screaming? I smile
Like a daft baby.
I am so far away from history.

What fills your world
When your whole world is blue?
How ridiculous these pains
Evaporate into oblivion.

Lemon rays peak the coast
From a sweet yellow circle -
I don't believe how slow this heart
Inflates and swells to its own deliberate shape.
