India’s Sixtieth Independence Day! Poem by Dr John Celes

India’s Sixtieth Independence Day!

Rating: 5.0

Sixty years have rolled off
Since India turned afree;
But minds and hearts of people
Stays in malady!

Not all’s well with the nation;
Where is social justice?
And rampant is corruption,
Plaguing most sectors.

Some brethren poor are poorer;
Some leaders stay so rich;
And diseases are rife,
Making life black as pitch!

The politics is awful;
They waste a lot of sums;
The needs of poor are unmet;
So is the score at stumps!

And Nature has been furious
In unexpected ways;
Will not Indians soon wake up
And change their future days?

Who cares about the struggles
Our freedom-fighters faced?
With love and bonds of friendship,
No more our hearts seem based!

God, usher in anew times
And make all realize
That progress needs hard labor,
Peace and sacrifice!
‘Jai Hind! Jai Bharat! ’
