If you live inland
And never have seen the sea
You probably don’t miss it
Like the likes of me.
I could never be satisfied
With water from ponds or lakes.
‘Cause all these inland waters
Just don’t have what it takes.
I need to feel the sea air
Surround me with its smell.
And look out at the ocean
To see the rise and swell
Of each new wave that rolls in
Then seeps back out again,
Then cast my eyes beyond this
And stare into the horizon.
There is no place that’s inland
To make me feel this way.
I try to content myself away from the sea
But know on every day
That I was born near the ocean
And feel the call of the sea.
For I miss everything about it
‘Cause the ocean’s a part of me.
