Innocence Poem by Jessica Bunnell

Innocence

I remember when boys meant yuck
And friendships were new.
Our dreams were not shattered,
Our worries were few.

Recesses were too short;
Life was too long.
All of our decisions came easily,
There was no need to belong.

We were sure that storks delivered babies
And that passion wasn’t strong.
Friendships were true;
We knew right from wrong.

Bad things never happened,
And only “boo-boos” brought tears.
Our little nightlights never went out,
Daddy erased all of our fears.

Goodbye meant just for the summer;
Friends didn’t part.
The fun went on forever,
Certainly no one would break our hearts.
