Instant Messaging Poem by Izzy Ruffin

Instant Messaging

You enter your screen name,
quickly rushing the password,
incase someone might see.
An invisible list of people appear,
you click swiftly on a few.
“Hey, what’s up? ” you say.
You’re expecting the typical reply.
It’s usually all the same,
“How are you? ” You ask,
“I’m good, and you? ” they reply.
An IM window opens up,
a request to join a chat.
You accept and enter the room,
about a dozen people inside,
quickly chatting it up. “Hey, ” you say.
Hands on the keyboard,
ready to reply.
You might not like IM,
you might stick to E-Mail.
But E-Mail is old,
and takes forever to load.
So, for tonight, I’ll stick to IM,
where the party never ends.
