Integrity Poem by Mary Rodriguez

Integrity

Rating: 5.0

Can you remember how it was when we began?
A beautiful love song we openly sang
Since we are young we're told love conquers all
A myth, that sends broken hearts into a perpetual fall
When you feel the world has knocked you down
Raise up your hand, I won't let you drown
Wishing I could give you strength to face your fears
Help you believe it can be us together the rest of our years
As I give you my love, please don't forsake
Our happiness in this life is what we make
I'll tell you often because I'm not afraid to say
I'm here by your side and I'm willing to stay
Time and again I've opened my heart
Each time hoping for a brand new start
However, wishing and hoping have got me nowhere
When I need you it seems you're not there
I can't feel you near me as once before
The silence between us hurts to the core
Doubt causes such great affliction
Making it hard to decipher fact from fiction
As I lay awake crying through an endless night
Longing for a love that once shined so bright
What was once so easy, now is tough
Why is it my love is not enough?
I plead out and question the One above
Do we live only to die for love?
Actions speak volumes compared to what we say
With integrity is how we should live each day
