Iraq Happy 10th! Poem by Leaking Pen

Iraq Happy 10th!

Oh Alexander how could you
With blood build the causeway to Tyre
And burn and lay its foundations to tears
Slain its legitimate population,
Who gave the Book its universal alphabet
And their prized Tyrian purple dye.
Oh Alexander how could you
Put the torch to Persepolis
And tried to erase Xerxes the Great name
From the annals of history.
You tried to decimate my voice The East
Then with intimacy you declared in public your love to Hephaestion
Who is my incarnation the day you laid your eyes on his soul.
I am Bucephalus spirit shadowing your reflection.
Then my Alexandria you tried to forge one tolerant empire
But the wings of death kidnapped your soul to immortality.
You left Ptolemy to govern my Alexandria
While your last queen two lovers burnt my thoughts
Housed in the heart of my poetic library.
And from Caesar and Anthony
Bush and Cheney took the wrong lead,
And laid to waste my heritage from Mesopotamia to Pashtun
And now after ten years of utter destruction and decimation
I'm asked to celebrate and honour democratic ideals
While its gun is pointed at my people,
Let us not forget, that God intended for The Sun
To rise from the East like man's civilization,
And the West always basks in the shadows of its knowledge.
