Is This America Now Poem by louis rams

Is This America Now

There's a virus going around affecting every
Country, city, and town.
No cures seem to be in sight and lockdowns are very tight.
Everyone is told to stay inside and to use facial masks
To stay alive.
If you must be in the street, social distancing you must meet.
Home schooling is becoming a trend so the country
Can begin to mend.
Sporting events, clubs, bars, and places of worship no longer matter
For it's become a place where you cannot gather.
Some people are still waiting for stimulus checks that never came
And unemployment checks is the same.
The stimulus checks can pay part of your rent or put food on your table
But who is to care for the poor and disabled.
We will not find not even ONE politician who is struggling
To make ends meetBecause they have a congressional seat.
Is this the AMERICA now? That to politicians we must bow!
Laws are being changed to their needs and on this they do feed.
No politician should serve more than two terms, and on their
Mistakes we should learn.
Rid the halls of the lobbyist who bribe and connive on
Which the politicians thrive.
