It's Hard To Go Back

Its hard to go back to where you were
Memories of good feelings gone astray now a blur
Sit where one sat to chat and think
Where love and friendship shrunk
Thoughts of the place and the person
When one knew the end had come

Seemed so long ago - in a past life
Where what one hoped for was love, honesty, sincerity and integrity
A life apart compared to where one is now
A new effort must be made for a new life
Where serenity will reign without strife

On a visit to the cafe late one afternoon
The place seemed gutted
Maybe a metaphor for my emotions
One thought of a burnt out barn
Rubble, ash and emptyness everywhere
Hard chairs, stale coffee in the air, people stare

A new beginning is needed
A new cafe, a new street
To have a coffee and a treat
Enlightenment has left feelings of emptyness
Wishing love and caring was still somewhere

Dreams of the beloved
Covered in soot from spewing ash
Sitting under a gnarled tree
Uncomfortable with computer in hand
A wall between him and me
Among people but alone
In what seemed a war zone
