It Took A Lifetime For Him To Write A Single Poem

It took a lifetime for him to write a single poem
His only poem
A poem as lonely as himself
No one read the life
Or understood the poem
Or cared to know why he had been unable to write it truly-

Imagine devoting a whole lifetime
To writing a single flawed poem
Filled with errors and forever unread-

Imagine writing a poem for a lifetime
And nothing being the result
And nonetheless understanding
He did what he had to do
Even if he should have done it better.
