It Was the Darkness After All

It was the darkness after all
Clothed me with a pall
And soon reminded
That I, being watched by stars
In a curse that blinded
My eyes, by darker bars.

I was to being left
Scarred, old and undressed
As the night stood alone
Soon to be all cotton white
Like a hymn read intone
Felt the sigh - my tears it wiped.

Moon fell, the dawn came
Into my face, people and the sky
Soon I revived, the flame
Of a flower held, and flew me by
No weeping, no aching soul -
It was the darkness after all.

Poem of the Day

poet Paul Laurence Dunbar

The mist has left the greening plain,
The dew-drops shine like fairy rain,
The coquette rose awakes again
Her lovely self adorning.

The Wind is hiding in the trees,
