Janmashtami With The Dangling Dahi Handi Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Janmashtami With The Dangling Dahi Handi

Under the shadow of
Krishna Janmashtami
Saw I the Govindas
Forming a human pyramid
To reach the top
From where hangs it
The dahi handi
To break it
So reminiscent of
Krishna's childhood
And notoriety.

An event so competitive
And sportive
Commemorates his birth
With his memoir
Making us reminiscent of
His stealing of curd
Hanging from the ceiling by rope
And his teasing of the gopis
Falling on Janmashtami,
The day on which he was born
And the Yamuna taking a mythical look
With Vasudeva crossing it
And the rains lashing.
