Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda - A Love Song 4 Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda - A Love Song 4

Rating: 5.0

Krishna among a crowd of beautiful Gopsi or cowherd maidens is happily rejoicing in their company. Enjoying their embraces and seductive approaches, Krishna is immersed in his love plays. The Sakhi spots Krishna at this juncture. She informs Radha about it and points a finger at the scene where all this is happening. Sakhi or
the friend watches Krishna revelling amidst the charming Gopis while Radha reluctantly listens to her.

Blue bodied and sandal adorned,
Draped in yellow silk garment,
Wearing a garland of forest flowers,
Dangling earrings, glowing cheeks and a charming smile,
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

Endowed with a well proportioned body,
A Gopi delights in an embrace with Krishna,
Forgetting all else she sings blissfully in five Ragas.
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

Another Gopika with eyes full of desires,
Stares incessantly at the lotus face of Krishna,
Enjoying the bliss of meditation,
She remains so, for a long, long time.
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

A Gopika in the pretext of telling a secret,
Bends forward as if to whisper,
Kisses Krishna's bright cheeks,
And is absolutely delighted!
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

Yet another Gopika obsessed with her love,
Pulls on to Krishna's garments,
To wean him away to a secret place,
Along the banks of Yamuna,
To be alone together!
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

A Gopi enjoys the flute music,
Claps her hands rhythmically,
Jingling her bangles to the tune,
And dances in ecstasy!
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

Krishna embraces a Gopi, kisses another one,
Jokes with a third one and stares at yet another maiden!
Sakhi whispers these tales into Radha's ears,
A witness to this exciting scene!
O Krishna! You are amidst a bevy of charming Gopis.

This song composed by Jayadeva,
Describing the secret love plays of Krishna,
Renowned and ravishing,
May it be prosperous and be praised!
