John Twomey He Was In A Class Of His Own Poem by Francis Duggan

John Twomey He Was In A Class Of His Own

A literary legend one worthy of note
The poems they live on of a very fine poet
Duhallow's best Wordsmith five decades ago
The poems from his pen like a river did flow.

John Twomey in his time a poetic great
The local successes he did celebrate
Many of those he celebrated with the departed lay
But the poems of the poet they are living today.

In green old Duhallow the bard did not stay
The lust of the wander it lured him away
To make a new start in a much bigger town
Far from the old places where he knew renown.

His poems and his songs have stood the test of time
Duhallow's Poet Laureate in his glorious prime
In North and Mid Cork celebrated and known
John Twomey he was in a class of his own.
