Journey To The Far Recesses Of The World To Discover Your Own Backyard Poem by Elizabeth Sheaffer

Journey To The Far Recesses Of The World To Discover Your Own Backyard

Flickering flames swim in the depths of a murky sea-
Unbridled passion flowing freely from your gaze.
Staring into eyes that eternally captivate my spirit;
My soul awed, and restless in its understanding.
The searing heat of passion cutting through the cool air-
Much like a knife through warm butter, as the saying goes.
I can feel every part of you in the deepest recesses of myself;
Every part of me cries out, longing to capture your essence.
I yearn to claim you as my own, as much from love as from fear.
I tremor at the very thought of losing you to anything, or anyone-
Such a loss could never be borne.
You are as much a part of me as I myself am;
To lose you would be to lose half of myself,
And such a half would certainly be the half most treasured-
The half that allows me to be human, and to feel such passion
As the passion that fills me with such longing
As I whisper your name into the dark, still air-
As the passion you have manifested within my soul.
The mind is a precious gift, and it allows us, as humans,
To fully recognize and appreciate those things with which we are blessed.
It is the heart, however, that so often leads us to our destinies,
Before our minds can even begin to process the situation-
An internal compass, guiding us along the path of Fate.
Is it any wonder that I found you at the end of my journey?
