Just Sitting Here Poem by Paula Glynn

Just Sitting Here

I'm just sitting here thinking about my life,
Time seemed to tick by so slowly,
Yet here I am, old and grey,
But I lived everyday, doing things to the max,
Keeping my friends entertained with my laughter,
For I had many good times, and still do,
But I miss those days when I looked to the future with hope,
And I suppose I have reached for the stars,
Because here I am,50 years later, rich and happy,
And I disagree about money being the root of all evil:
How could it be, when I have got all this?
No, I worked hard in my life, I never gave up,
I woke up everyday and got on with things,
I didn't hide or run away from problems,
I was - and still am - strong and brave,
I wasn't lonely, blue or afraid,
And to others, I never gave in to,
I just wasn't the type of be singled out negatively,
I guess because I don't have negative emotions,
And even to this day, I still face problems without fear,
For life is not perfect, but life is precious,
And I know that I matter to the human race,
And I know I am beautiful, in spite of my grey hair,
And at those old photographs I stare,
And realise what a beauty I had been,
I knew I had been attractive, but never realised how much,
Anyhow, I move on with modern times,
And forget those crimes that riddle the world,
For I live in a rich, happy and rewarding place,
Where I am sound of mind and beautiful of face.
