Just To Pocket The Profits Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Just To Pocket The Profits

Our differences.
And conflicts created,
To keep our beliefs...
Separated to go unappreciated.
Has begun to become,
More familiar similarities.
Than not.

As that bright spotlight,
Has these days of heartbreak.
Sorrow, anguish and pain.
Begins to focuse upon,
The ones who implemented...
This doing.
Just to pocket the profits.
Benefit and gain.
Their own feasting of greed.

Revealed by a virus.
Spreading a diseasing pandemic.
Leaving minds and eyes,
Clearing in disbelief.
That it has never been,
The well being of humanity.

But the economy.
Regardless who it is that dies.
As long as the economy,
Is kept to survive and thrives...
Through a pandemic.
A doing that clearly presents,
The values prioritized...
Those mindless.
And self anointed,
with unstoppable and highly effective..
Ignorance.

Even in the midst,
Of their lives being threatened...
By the possibility of death.
Seen they are refusing,
To keep a 'social distance'.
They, the greedy feeding selfishly.
Are finding this difficult to do.
Wanting with it wished,
To protect themselves in protest.
Against the permanence of death.
And what the doing of this,
Guarantees to offer thoughtless actions.
Just to profit and pocket.
Benefit and gain.
But at what price to ultimately pay! ?
