Lady Macbeth Poem by Patrick Fealy

Lady Macbeth

'Unsex me! ' cried the actress
down there upon the stage
playing quite the villainess
summoning a manly rage
Remote from every mother's heart
all maidenhood obscured
In the aftermath of murder
no woman's love endures
'Out spots out' quoth she
that guilt might flee
Let water clean the mark
the blood stain of the innocent
from her confounded heart
Renouncing their own gender
were ladies sporting beards
three sisters waxed ephemeral
their consciences all seared
With magic incantations
into their wombs conveyed
the pharmacy of villainy
where murders now are made
Three sisters weird
with manly beards
effect a witches brew
assassins stir their potions now
confected for the brood
