Last Night I Saw A Star Die. Poem by Aden Zincke

Last Night I Saw A Star Die.

Last night I saw a star die
And I heard the whole world grieve
We thought you'd shine forever
It's so hard to believe!
I heard the rivers cry, the soulful forest mourn
I even felt the keening of a sapling being torn
Last night I watched a star die
Now the sky seems extra pale
And I saw a million faces
Hidden beneath their veils
I saw the moon painted black and witnessed the heavens cry
I even heard the wind sing a sorrowful goodbye
Last night I saw a star die
Now there's just a gapping hole
And everyone's so desolate
Who will play your role?
You were more than just Dollah, you were a mother and a child.
A aunt and a sister, you were our shining light
Where do we go for comfort?
To whom do we turn?
Last night I watched a star die
And I watched our future burn
Last night I watched a star dying
As it danced and twirled
Last night I watched a star die
And saw darkness upon the world.
Dedicated to my Aunt Dollah Windvogel may you rest in peace. Sympathies to the Windvogel family.
