Last Post Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Last Post

(Bugle call commemorating the dead in war)

In remembrance they stand, heads bowed
Silent, remembering Nation's fallen flowers
Humble before war memorial giving respect
Soldiers, sailors, airmen, who never survived
Fighting destructive wars, dead before their time
Wreaths laid before memorial, nation remembering
Last post played, bugle call, breaking the silence
Chilling soul, weeping eyes, trembling hearts.
They shall not be forgot taken in fury of war
Falling bloody upon foreign battlefields
Never seeing home, family, and friends again.
They shall be remembered, each one valued
By grateful nation freed from oppression war
Dead, remembered with red poppies and bugle call.
