Left Out In The Cold Poem by Paula Glynn

Left Out In The Cold

It started with odd girl out
An innocent 14 year old girl
Realizing the teenage years
To be of hardship and tears
Every day in that jam packed class
Filled with her internal fears
Her doom crystal clear

Soon seen as shy and timid
Shunned from her peer group
Told she to be useless and worthless
Told dreams would never come true
Told life nasty and unfaithful
And deeply cruel and unfair
Narcissist's taking that dare

Of stealing innocence
Of stealing peace of mind
Of stealing emotional security
Of stealing happiness
Of stealing hope
Of stealing love
But never stealing inner grace

But now she is on the streets
The aggressors having won
With their underhand thievery
With their tricks and games
Leaving her broken and bruised
Leaving her alone and crying
Tears of a broken heart

They go to the cinema
They go to the theatre
They go to weddings
They go to birthday parties
They go on their yachts
They go out to restaurants
They go on exotic holidays

While she is left out in the cold
Left to feel the cold breeze
Sting her tired and weary eyes
And leave her having lost everything
Her peace of mind and money
Knowing they've got their
Successful and happy lives

It isn't fair and it isn't right
Where she now knows
She should've put up a fight
And protected herself
From their power games
And vicious lies
And painful sly violence

But now help is coming
To take her off the streets
Where she used to be meat
In a life full of deceit
Vicious lies and innuendos
New leather boots now on her feet
Where she stands strong

And doesn't admit defeat
Her truly old soul
Knowing her errors
Knowing her mistakes
Knowing her problems
Viewing herself from afar
Now being a soul truly wise.
