Less Generic Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Less Generic

When heard more,
From some concerned and express.
They fear most losing their identity.
Exactly what to them does that mean?
Is it a fear of losing,
What to them...
Should be already felt.
And unquestionably known.
Or the image of it.
Diminishing around them.
To be everywhere and identified as shown.

Can it be,
That perhaps...
That identity has become less generic.
Done more diversified.
Until the individualized image,
Once collectively for most to identify with...
Has lost its symbolized image.
Many grew and were taught to idolize it.
And today...
Those who know who they are.
With specific identites.
They know to feel themselves to be.
Are not seeking images to idolize,
To represent or find them sought.
With the purpose to validate their presence.
Or enforced upon others,
A demanding to be recognized.
By any means to use found necessary!

"You will acknowledge my presence.
Is that understood."

-Sure.
But...
Why the sheets and the horses?
And the carrying of flaming torches?
I don't get it!
Are you in need for attention to get,
That bad?
Or...
Do you have identity issues.
Which is it? -
