Let Me Be Poem by Jackie Oakden

Let Me Be

Let me be
I must be free
Let me go
I have to show
my gorey cuts
on my pale arms
people will think I'm nuts
at the old time farms

Let me be
myself and not others
set me free
from my older brothers
Let me be
awake and free
away from this misery
Let me be
able to see
that I'm done with this misery

When I woke
you stood over me
Now I'm broke
and you took my keys
when I searched
my home I found
everything was ditched
but I heard no sound

then you came
up behind me and
asked for my name
your skin is rough
it felt like sand
do you think you're so tough?
