Let's Text Poem by Alana Winner

Let's Text

I do not have energy to talk about anything meaningful.

I look down always distracted and miss anything beautiful.

I do not think I can be so spontaneous.

I ignore your life except for pleasantness.

I do not want to disturb your voicelessness.

I think meaningful interaction is just wastefulness.

I do not want to avoid human alienation.

I just want to have a three-line conversation.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As a psychologist, I wondered how texting affects human realtionship and society. Texting is great for simple things like asking a roommate if you left your purse in her car when she is working and can not be disturbed. However, some people use texting as a subsitute for calling family on holidays. In therapy, communication is a face to face interaction becuase often people tell you things that their body launguage tells you is not what they really think. You lose more and more information as you get to e-mail and text. Aunt Marge does not need to be texted to see how she is recovering from her fall. She needs to be visted or called..
