Lets Get Out Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Lets Get Out

He takes his time picking out the right lollipop
Smiles like an angel
On his chair while he gets his hair cut
By the lady who asks if I'm the pretty woman he has spoken of
Probably not but there I was
He says the only sweet thing in his life was the lollipop he was sucking on
But before he says goodbye
Taking me to fly outta Fayetteville on his motorbike
He told me he could get used to having me around town
Someone beside him, I just smile like a darling.
Don't give me dreams, let's just get it on.
We drove for hours on end
Talking about life and things that may have meant something
Freedom and daydreams, things that mean everything and nothing
Making plans for the future of a friendship that was something more but also less
And I know that we are just a cool little crew of lust and easiness
Of getting on well, with other lovers on the horizon
Like I said before
Don't give me dreams, let's just get it on.
We're going to travel the world, going to move abroad
Gonna find all that we're looking for and together in this waiting.
You know who I am, more than any other soul
And no man can keep me together, but you're doing just fine as a friend.
I'm trying to be a good girl, not drinking til the bottle is gone
Been trying to live up to the angel smile, not go home with a stranger who makes me feel alive.
I don't want this to backfire, tired of fighting with everyone around
With what I should be doing with my life.
You get it, you understand it, a little slice of heaven understanding my mind
I was waiting for someone like you who could make me different in a way that's good.
It better not backfire.
We've done it all before, trust it like nothing before,
Besties, my man, just a friend who knows more than any other,
And no one can compare to the mental paradise you challenge me in.
I thought I could survive in my world of play pretend
But you found reality and brought me down.
Let's get down unlike anything before.
Let's get out.
