Lie Poem by Courtney Casebolt

Lie

I waited on a hopeless ring
Living around the phone
By now I thought it wouldn’t sting
But I realize I’m alone

Every once in a while
I can hear
The laugh behind your smile
When I’m holding back my tears

The nights drag on
Like a country song
Without a moments rest or sleep
Don’t worry I find the time to weep

Through the summer
I’ll sit and wait
Are you still with her?
I won’t debate

It’s hard to sit on the backburner of life
Listening to every word
As she talks about becoming your wife
If only you knew how much it hurts

You decided not to try
So I figured the only way
Was to say Goodbye
To the man who to this day
Is still my everything
We lived a lie
Just last year
And I thought I would die
Without you near

Many words had went unsaid
Many nights lying restless in bed
Many times your letters were read
Before I decided to rest my head

The simple touch of your hand
And now I know we understand
