Life Is Real Poem by Abbey Rigney

Life Is Real

Looking at the dark tree that stands alone with the soft, cotton candy sky in the background.

Throwing your face into your pillow case on Halloween, smelling all that sweet candy.

Jumping on the big, white, fluffy bed in the hotel room, and just melting.

The second your food gets set down in front of you at your favorite restaurant.

When winter turns to spring and that warm burst of sunshine hits your cheeks.

This is real.

Life:

It gives us abundance in bits and pieces.

It displays for us simplicity in the most complicated situations.

It shoots out sparks of pleasure when we least expect it.

And yet we find ways to make it seem overwhelming and hopeless.

We give ourselves bourdons and carry them with the wrong attitudes.

We act out of anger not understanding.

And we oversee all the little moments that should be cherished.

So look out your window at everything real.

Everything that life’s reality has offered.

And do this for a change: smile.
