Life Without Parole Poem by Roneece Pieters

Life Without Parole

Imagine someone you hold very dear to you. Imagine their face and all the details about it. The shape of their eyes. The way they smiled. Imagine all the good times you had w/ them. Imagine the bad ones too because that probably helped the bond grow stronger. Think about all the love you have for them. Imagine that laugh. Think about how you would laugh just because of their laugh. Imagine the times they would sing, dance, or clap out of tune. Imagine all the times that person annoyed you but at the end of the day you know you wouldn't trade them for anyone else. Imagine that person completely. Let their face just rest in your mind.

Now imagine them gone. & all those memories you just imagined are now all you have of them. Imagine someone took them away from you for nonsense. Feel the pain, anger, and sorrow running through you. Then go numb to the point where thoughts collide and emotions intertwine to the point you can't tell the difference between happiness and anger because every time you think about it, there's a bitter laugh.

Tell me if what you're feeling equals to life without parole. I don't think it's enough. I don't think my forgiveness can be earned in such a short space of time.
