Like Me

In 1775 America fought to be free, and though some Americans were freed in 1783 my African American people were still held in the bonds of slavery. The ones that were free had Thomas Jefferson write a declaration claiming all men are free. That is all men except for the ones that look like me.Who was once free until 1619 when they were brought to these a]American shores and life as they knew it was evermore.A bloody civil war started in 1861 which no one e=real won.But there was a proclamation in 1863 where then-President Lincoln stated all my people were free. But we all weren't free until June 19,1865, that is when the abolishment of slavery was ratified. Now the chains may have been gone but in the hearts of most whites slavery lived on.After slavery ended the gave black men the right to vote but they didn't like our choices so they Jim Crowed our political voice. In the fifties and sixties for our political voice to no longer mute. And in 1965 we regain our political voice, and in 2008 we were heard because Obama was our choice. And 2012 when he was elected again we thought social and political racism was coming to an end.Oh, how naive we were because here we are in 2020 still protesting for racial equality.I guess I shouldn't be surprised because America was founded on all men are equal unless you are black like me.
