Linger On Poem by Alexander Thompson

Linger On

i fear that one day ill find the words in my heart
that truely express how i feel about you and i will be undone,
such words have never been spoken nor heard,
like a whisper,
soft as snow, but with light enough to warm a single raindrop,
dream on that vain pretence that maybe shell hear you and it will echo back.
when i am old and gone,
lay me a happy man with roots for my bed and petals for eyelids,
cheeks that swell with envy at my eyes who see your face,
no compas to direct my sail.
smile did i when i held you,
and wept the thousand summers you were gone,
smile and ill remember,
that even though you left,
my love lingerd on.
