Listen Poem by Arielle D'amore

Listen

Driving around looking for something
Someone
An answer
Trying to find myself in a world of unfamiliar faces
Cut without any blood to prove to myself that I'm still alive
Am I alive?
I have to be
No death is this painful and slow
No human can physically torture my body
Only you can wound me this way
Is it so easy for you to hurt me?
I've hurt you too
But just as soon as a tear fell to your cheek
I retracted my anger and held you tight
Wishing I could take away all of your pain
Pain that I hadn't even inflicted
Yet you tear at my heart with your untrusting love
And then leave me to cry out the pain
No one to hold me
No one to make things okay
You say you love me but is this love?
And how could you ever dare question my love?
So I'll sit in my car in the dark parking lot and cry to myself
Cry for your touch
Cry for your gentle words
Cry for your love
But all in vain
One cannot hear what one does not listen for
How long must my heart cry for yours?
