Everybody has history
and even other things
other beings
Ain't nothing without history
You see that man over there?
You think he's mad because he smiles at the sky
above him?
and talks to no one in particular?
He has history
He is history.
And that woman over there?
She is not the man's wife
She's no one's wife in particular
But she has history
She is history
The history that began long ago
Where the sky meets the earth
And the earth sighed with joy
And the sky winked approval
And the woman walked the earth
Until she met the man with his back
turned to her
and she hesitated to call him
and she sighed the sigh of one
who wanted to call
where the sky met the earth and
the earth murmured warmth
and the woman sighed again
though his back is to her
Everyone has history
and so does everything
Our history is in ourselves
and in other things besides
that man you see over there
and the woman as well
and the sky as well
and the earth as well
We have history
We are history
